Objective: to implement a system so that newspaper’s sales people (approx.
200 nationwide) could have access to sales and marketing materials available
to them via their laptops. Tasks included:
- Interviewing salespeople/end users in order to measure their requirements
and how they used the Internet;
- Assess hardware and software capabilities of both end users and Intranet
web servers. 100% of end users were using a 28.8 modem, and browsers were
standardized to Netscape 4.5 with Java capabilities active;
- Implemented multimedia materials (marketing presentations, flyers, demographic
maps, etc) through both an Intranet and internal Lotus Notes databases
so that materials could be accessed quickly in the field using a laptop
and a dialup
connection.
- Files were optimized for speed and almost no duplication
in posting materials on both web server and Lotus Notes databases was
required,
even when
an Internet version of the site was launched
